Going as far back as the invention of dice games, Radoff breaks the origins of today’s social games into four distinct branches. On one side, he has browser games and casual games separated into two branches and on the other he has achievement systems and free-to-play massively multiplayer online games. How he got from dice to there (and rolled Magic: The Gathering and pinball into the whole thing) is a very interesting take on history and well worth 10 minutes of your attention.
